Chocolate Chess Pie- Michelle Gaskin Brown

Recipe from Board Member Michelle Gaskin Brown (Amazon)

Chocolate Chess Pie

It’s so good and sweet!

1 ½ cups of sugar
2 eggs
½ stick of butter
½ teaspoon salt
1 small can of evaporated milk
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 9 inch unbaked pie shell

Preheat oven to 425/450 degrees

Melt the butter, stir in other ingredients one at a time in this order (cocoa, sugar, eggs, salt, vanilla, milk).

Pour unto an unbaked pie shell.  Bake for  5-10 minutes, then turn the oven down to 350 for the remaining 30-40 minutes. This helps keep the crust crisp, but you have to watch the pie carefully to make sure the crust doesn’t get too brown.  If the crust is browining around the edges too much, you can cover them with small strips of aluminum foil.

If you vary the order of ingredients, the pie will separate into layers but taste isn’t affected.
